Estimating
the Lifespan of a Monarch of the Overwintering Generation
Consider this real-life example:
Assume a butterfly emerged as an adult on August 14th.
If it died the following April 14th, how long did the butterfly live?
Here's one way to think about this math problem. For each
month on the chart below, fill in the number of days the butterfly lived.
(Then count the number of weeks; then the number of months.) Finally,
add them all for the totals.
