March

Dear Students and Teachers,
Greetings from your friends at Journey North! Thank you for taking care
of the monarch butterflies this winter. We're glad you'll be tracking
their migration north with us this spring.
The Monarchs
are entering the US. So far this year there is not a big wave crossing
the Texas border, and the butterflies seem late! At this time last year,
there had been 51 sightings from Texas. Only a few have been reported
in March this spring.
The milkweed plant, which the female monarchs need for laying eggs, only
emerged from the ground two weeks ago. You can see how closely the monarchs
time their migration to the life cycle of this important plant.
