October 18, 2002

Dear Students,
This is what I observed within the 10-16 of October:

On the 12th, two monarchs were seen flying at an average height (150-200 meters) in "Los Cebados," and two days later, on the 14th, four butterflies were flying over "La Canada" at approximately the same height.

On the other hand, at mid-day on Monday I ran into a teacher in the main street. We talked about the coming season and he told me he had seen a dead butterfly (monarch, of course), lying on the road just in front of the secondary school. It seemed as if a car had run over it. So he thought the butterflies had already arrived.

Most people in "La Canada", "Los Cebados" and Los Cedras tell me they are surprised they haven't seen more butterflies coming, since this time last year there were far more than there seem to be now.

Kind regards,

German Medina
