All Monarchs Do Not Go to Mexico What do Migration Maps Tell? Click on map to enlarge. This is an animated map of the spring 2008 monarch migration. The colored dots show where and when the first people saw their first monarchs that spring. The red triangles show where people saw monarchs during the winter that year (in January or February). As the map show, all monarchs do not migrate to Mexico for the winter. Some spend the winter along the Gulf Coast, the Atlantic Coast and the Pacific Coast of California. Watch the wave of migration move across the continent and ask yourself these questions: Does the migration pattern suggests that all the monarchs are coming from Mexico? Why or why not? Do the monarchs that wintered along the Gulf Coast also migrate north? In what ways does the migration pattern suggest this? Please help gather data.The picture is still incomplete.
