- That
"spaghetti" is really a silk pad that the caterpillar
spins when it's ready to make a chrysalis.
- The
tiny black post at the top of the chrysalis (called the cremaster)
has lots of little hooks.
- As
the caterpillar twists and turns, these hooks grab on to the
silk so the fragile chrysalid doesn't fall and die.
