Need a Clock Too!
To use the sun as a compass, monarchs must know what time it is
-- not in hours and minutes, but whether it's early morning, late
morning, mid-day, etc. In short, they must possess what researchers
call a "biological clock." The monarchs use the
compass and clock together in what's called
a "time-compensated Sun compass."
