Dear Families,
Every autumn, a magical event takes place in the animal world. Perhaps traveling over your own head right now—or clustered by the hundreds in a nearby tree—the annual monarch butterfly migration to Mexico is underway.
Monarch butterflies are born knowing everything they need to survive. We look on with wonder:

  • How do the monarchs know when to go to Mexico?
  • How do they know which way to fly?
  • How fast, how far, and how high do they travel?
  • How do they know when they have arrived—at a small speck on the planet where none has ever been before?

Our Class Will Travel With the Monarchs
JOURNEY NORTH ("Journey South" in the fall), is an educational website that engages students in a global study of wildlife migration and seasonal change. Students share their own field observations with classmates across North America. Our class will be tracking the migration of monarch butterflies this fall and we invite you to embark on this journey with us.

Join the Journey!
Here’s how you can join our journey and support your child’s learning:

  • Tour Journey North online. See web address at the top of this letter.
  • Watch for monarchs. Be citizen scientists by observing and reporting your sightings of monarch butterflies.
  • Learn More: Read booklets or view slideshows about monarch butterflies with your child on the Journey North website.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please call.

Yours respectfully,
