Building with Mud
Have you seen a female robin with a beakful of mud? This is a sign that she's building a nest. The mud is used to cement nesting materials together and adhere them to the supporting branch. Notice the mud across the female's breast feathers. The robin uses her body to shape the nest into a curved bowl. The sealed nest helps keep the eggs — and then the babies — warm underneath mother robin. |
