Babies in the Bush!

These babies all fledged (left the nest) about two weeks after hatching. Here's why:

  1. They need a chance to exercise and build muscles before they can fly.

  2. The nest is no longer safe. Larvae from flies and other parasites can kill them. Predators that heard the babies in the nest (such as hawks) are a threat, too.

  3. Mom needs room to lay another batch of eggs!
