Who's a Baby?
Looking for Clues

The father is feeding berries to the young (juvenile) robin.
What clued us in? Read below!
  • Male robins have dark black heads and bright orange breasts. They often have white stripes on their throats.

  • Fathers usually feed the young while moms repair or build nests, or incubate a new clutch of eggs.

  • Tail length: A young robin's tail is much shorter than a grownup's tail. How well do you think the young robin can fly? Why?

  • The baby is fluttering its wings. This shows the parents just how hungry it is. It also helps build stronger wings for flying.

Did you notice . . . that the father has squished the berry? Why? To break the waxy coating and make it easier for the young robin to digest the juice and pulp!
