Telling Time with Shadow Sticks
A Schoolyard Investigation

They discovered that shadows pointed north when the sun was highest. A shadow was long in the morning as the sun appeared in the east. It was shortest around noon. Then it got longer again until the sun set in the west — but the shadow was on the other side of the object. (It had moved "clockwise"!)
