Leaves in Wintertime?

leaves on this plant are a purplish-green. Some of them have
brown colored areas on them. Did you notice the leaves look thick
and leathery? The snow sits on the leaf and it isn't wilted from
the cold. At the base of each leaf—where it attaches to the plant stem—there is a little bump. This bump will turn into a new stem with new leaves. Right now it is tucked tightly into the stem where it is protected. When will it start to swell and grow? Plants have many ways of adapting to their environments. Some have thick and waxy leaves. Some have soft, hairy leaves. When you look closely you can begin to find out more.
