Brett and Andy Accept the Challenge:*
A Tulip Microclimate Experiment
This is our Microclimate. It is on the west side of our school building. There is one tree on that side but it doesn't have any leaves yet. We have had a lot of snow and it has melted away from the building. Every time it snows it piles up but when the sun comes out it melts away pretty fast.
We have tulips, hyacinth, and daffodils planted here next to the building. You can't see them very well in the picture but we planted them about 10 inches away from the concrete. Most of the plants are about 3 inches tall.
The plant in this picture (below) came up in early February. We had some really cold weather after they came up, even below zero! The leaves turned yellow, then brown, and mushy. We think this plant is probably dead and won't sent up any more leaves and won't flower.

This plant (below) came up on March 1st. It is bright green and firm and it looks very healthy. The nights have been below freezing but not near zero and the days have been above 40. We think this plant will live and will flower.
