Map Questions: Weather Maps
Journey North uses lots of maps in our studies of seasonal change. This week we'll look at drought and temperature maps.Each map (above) tells its own story. Study the colors in each map and find out what they represent using each map key.

Drought Map

  • Drought is a word that means prolonged period when there is a lack of rain. Find where there is Extreme to Exceptional drought in the US in September.
  • Find your home state on the drought map. Are you having a drought? Where is the nearest drought?
  • How might drought affect plants in the fall season?

Temperature Map

  • What is the warmest temperature predicted? What color is it?
  • What is the coldest temperature predicted? What color is it?
  • Compare the temperature and the drought map. What do you notice?
  • Use the backside of this handout to list 3 questions about the maps to ask your partner or classmate.
