FINAL Tulip Garden Update: May 13, 2005
This week’s final map still shows some gardens yet to show red. We’ll discuss why. View spring’s arrival with a week-by-week slide show and marvel at the patterns as the continent warmed up this spring. Tulip Garden Update: May 6, 2005
May Day brings baskets of flowers from our gardens and woodlands this week! The map's colored mostly red - showing that spring has swept across the North American continent. Our Northern-most gardeners are celebrating the season too, after the long winter's cold. Who will be the last to bloom? Predictions? Stay tuned!

Tulip Garden Update: April 29, 2005
The wave of spring continues its spread across the continent. In the past week, 39 gardens saw their first blossoms and 10 reported the first sign of green. This week, dig into 5 years’ worth of data from one special garden, then predict when bloom will occur in 2005. Also, look closely at your flowers. Do they appear to belong to the lily family?

Tulip Garden Update: April 15, 2005
As temperatures rise this week more gardens are blooming than emerging for the first time all season. Learn about an interesting phenomenon called alleopathy, and try an experiment. Try your hand at creating poetry, building a model of your tulip plant, and examining plants underground to compare old and new in the tulip garden.

How has daylength affected us all here in the Northern hemisphere? From the pan handle of Alaska to Europe's continental interior, the green and red colors dotting today's map suggest that spring is arriving! How will cold temperatures and snow affect the emerging tulips? As the tulips grow and the sun heats up the Earth this spring watch your plants carefully. This week we introduce you to a temperature isotherm map. Colored bands represent average temperatures. How do the colors correspond to the flush of spring in North America? Critters in the garden – grab your magnifying glass and solve the identification of some puzzling tracks left in the snow. What does springtime mean in Alaska? Find out and then compare to your own!

A bright red tulip opened its petals on Valentine’s Day this year for the first garden to bloom in the 2005 season. This is 2 weeks earlier than last year. What is normal? Explore our maps to learn more. Students gather temperature data in their gardens to find answers to want makes the gardens emerge. Use a scientific approach to gathering Growing Degree data this spring. And learn more about light and plant growth.
