What's Happening This Week?
From
Jamesville, NY:
03/27/06 - We live on the higher elevations where the snow may have
covered the first emergence of our bulbs. Since each year we have the
same problem,
I feel like I miss the emerging stage, but decided that it's best to
report consistently. Our report is a sort of "ice out" over
the tulips!...and a sure sign of real spring.
From Frances Koontz in Bowie, MD:
03/27/06 - We have
7 blooming tulips. Many of our plants have been eaten by a family of
rabbits that our custodian reports visits our garden each morning
at about 6 am. Our weather has been cold. From Newport
News, VA:
03/24/06 - Yesterday at 1:30 pm, museum staff saw one of our Red Emperor
tulips in the Children's Learning Garden began to reflex one petal in
the act
of blooming. Today I saw it fully open. Our tulips emerged early, but
several cold snaps plus very dry weather delayed bloom a little later
this year compared to past years. Welcome, spring!
From
Victoria Phelps Keish in Arlington, VA:
03/22/06 - They're Here! We have had some very strange weather this late
winter/early spring. Temperatures have been as high as 80 and as low
as 34! Our tulips
have survived the elements and have started to bloom!
From Lucinda
Surber in Palo Alto, CA:
03/22/06 - We have had rain, rain, and more rain! Today the sun came
out for awhile and our first tulip finally bloomed!
From Liz
Burgess in Franklin, VA:
03/17/06 - We are glad that our tulips are blooming. We noticed a little
bit of purple in the center.
