An important garden event happened this past week. We have a garden reported emerged NORTH of 60 degrees! If every degree change in latitude is about 60 miles, how far north of your garden is this one? Calculate how many days between yours emerging and theirs. After the long, cold winter the Northern gardens are coming to life. Last Chance to predict! Who will be the last to bloom? Stay tuned!

Find 61.2N Latitude, -149.86W Longitude on this map. How does their location compare with your school? (What is YOUR latitude and longitude address?) On 04/28/06 Ptarmigan Elementary reported their tulips were finally seen coming out of the ground. Spring has sprung! Here is what they reported:

"We finally have seen our first tulip bulb peeking out from the ground! There is only one, but we are sure many others will follow if the weather will just stay warm this weekend. Our temperatures have been falling below freezing every night and we've only had a couple days this month that have reached 50 during the day. We do have lots of daylight to encourage the bulbs once they emerge from the ground."
