Spotlight
on Albany, New York Heritage
Garden Program
Each year Albany, New York is BIG on tulips! With roots in the Capital
region's rich Dutch heritage, Albany has hosted the Tulip Festival for
the past 50 years. To get into the spirit, and incorporate science and
education, 15 local third grade classes from 6 schools plant Red Emperor
tulips for the Journey North project as part of Albany Roots: A Heritage
Garden Program. This is the 10th year they have kept records for Journey
North gardens!
The first
of the Tulip Test gardens to bloom this spring was at Giffen Elementary
School. Below you can see the bright red Red Emperors lining the walkway
at the school's entrance. Welcome Spring!
