We read a poem, 'Ode to Spring' by Walter Brooks today. It is
sunny and 7 degrees Celsius. We were really hoping to see our
tulips and FINALLY ... our tulips have emerged!!! At first the
garden looked brown and dreary but upon closer inspection ...
we found 15 shoots and four worms. We observed by looking at the
entire garden and then 'zooming in' with our hand lenses. We wonder
how long it will be until we see flowers

We've experienced a very warm spring. Half of the garden gets
limited sun, so it remains covered by snow. The other half has
three bulbs that have emerged and are about two inches tall.

We planted our bulbs in pots because it was too muddy to plant
in the outdoor garden soil. We set them on a cart in the classroom
so they could receive sunlight. The soil is dry, but the leaves
are moist with water dripping from the tips of the leaves.

The tulips we planted last year came up one week before our 2009
plantings. The old ones are 3 - 5 cm tall while this year’s
are just pushing up the dirt. Now we are eager to see which bloom
first.
