Garden Observations :
Week Ending April 8, 2010
  • 04/05/10 Portland, Connecticut
    All of our tulips have emerged! Eight of our plants have buds. Six of our buds are showing a bit of red. Last week it rained all week long. Some places in Portland got 8 inches of rain. The temperature got into the mid to upper 70s. This is about 20 degrees above normal.
  • 04/07/10 Keene, New Hampshire
    On March 25th our tulips emerged!! Today 4/7/10 the plants are almost 10 cm tall w/ tightly patched bulbs. The temp. in southern N.H. is very warm for April; almost 80 degrees F.!!! We had rain last night and it is predicted for the day after tomorrow. Our tulips may bloom next week!!!
  • 04/05/10 Midland Michigan
    This is by far the earliest bloom date we have had in 7 years of participating in the tulip study. We usually expect our tulips to bloom around April 21st.
  • 04/02/10 Montpelier, Vermont
    Our First Grade Test Tulip Garden is waking up! Students have noticed the snow is gone, the earth is getting greener and their tulips are springing up. We can't wait until they bloom, and first graders are making predictions about the bloom date in their journals.
  • 04/05/10 Bridgeport, Connecticut
    Last week it rained for 3 days very heavy, On Monday the tulips were in full bloom. Today the temperature has gone from 50 to 80 degrees, it is only 11 am. Our tulip garden is very pretty. The flowers are not as large as last year. Three fourth of the bulbs bloomed. Last year all the bulbs bloomed. The fourth grade class at Longfellow School.
