Back to This Week's Update
Garden Observations :
Week Ending April 15, 2010
  • 04/12/10 Freeport, Maine
The first of our tulips have bloomed. Three out of twenty have bloomed. This is the earliest bloom that we have record of. We also dug up the time capsule that we buried when we planted the bulbs. We wrote letters to ourselves telling how we hoped to grow and change by the time the tulips bloomed. We also planted bulbs at our houses. Some of them have bloomed!
  • 04/09/10 Verona, Wisconsin
Last week we had temperatures hit the 80's, yesterday we woke up to snow on the ground that lasted in some places throughout the day. This is Wisconsin after all! Today we came to school and the sun is shining and one lone red tulip is blooming in our study garden!!!
  • 04/07/10 Layton, Utah
We have blooms but not stems. The tulips are only about 3-4 inches tall. Leaves seem to have the bloom coming right up from the ground. I can't see any stem.
  • 04/07/10 Brooklyn, NY
Our garden is not on school grounds. It is in a local cemetery, so we don't get to see it every day.
  • 04/11/10 Falmouth, Maine
Spring is here in Portland, Maine at Riverton School! 2 of 3 gardens bloomed because of sun exposure,& plenty of rain. We were surprised that our tulips bloomed this week because it was so much earlier than last year.

For Your Journal:
Read each garden report. Think of questions you would ask about what they are seeing in their gardens.
