Camp
TALON: Join the Fun!
Camp
TALON stands for Teen Adventures Learning Ornithology and
Nature. This year's dates are June
12-16, 2011, and you're invited!
This
five-day camp for young birders (ages 12-16) who are interested
in birds and nature.
Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources,
the Georgia Ornithological Society (GOS), and the Atlanta
Audubon Society, Camp TALON will be based at Epworth by
the Sea on St. Simons Island. They will be birding at Harris
Neck NWR, Altamaha WMA, Little St. Simons Island, Ft. Stewart,
Sapelo Island, and Jekyll Island. Teachers for the camp
include biologists and ornithologists with the Georgia
Department of Natural Resources, GOS, The Nature Conservancy,
Atlanta Audubon Society, Little St. Simons Island, and
Ft. Stewart.
Besides becoming a better birder, camp participants will
learn about bird migration, conservation, census techniques,
photography, journaling, song identification, and more.
If you live inland and are wondering how you'll be able
to get to the coast for the camp - don't worry. A bus will
pick up inland camp participants in Macon, will take you
to the camp, and will return to Macon in the late afternoon
on the 16th.
The camp will only cost $300 per participant, which includes
meals, lodging, and transportation. Look for the registration
form here. The deadline for registering is
May 6th, so send in your form and deposit soon!
