Northern Cardinal
Cardinals don't migrate but the males sing to defend their breeding territory from oher males. Cardinals were first heard singing in Tennessee in late February. In this northern species, both males and females sing. The eye-catching males are brilliantly colored even in winter; they don't molt into a dull plumage. Their color and song cheer us all!
