Whether returning over land route (via Mexico and Texas) or sea (over the Gulf of Mexico), hummingbirds are hungry when they arrive. They'll be eager to eat from your nectar-filled feeders and flowers! Hummingbirds can't afford to be in too much of a hurry when heading to their breeding range in spring. There has to be food all along the way to fuel their high metabolism and provide the frequent feedings that mean survival for such tiny bodies.
