American redstart
This male was photographed by Dr. Aborn in Cuba, an important wintering area for many migrants. It has bristly feathers at the sides of its mouth that may help funnel insects caught on the wing. Its coloring is a clue to his age, as males don't assume the black-and-orange plumage until late in their second summer, after breeding season.
