Indigo bunting
Can you see why these brilliantly colored birds are nicknamed "blue canaries?" This week in Louisiana, Indigo Buntings are being seen. Common and widespread through late spring and summer all over eastern North America, most spend winters in South America. This male is in his summer colors, while the females are brown all year round. They sing their cheery song from dawn to dusk atop the tallest perch in sight.
