The older Great Horned Owl is 31 days old. Both of the owlets are in good condition.
On 23 April, Dr. Roger Boyd, biology professor, Baker University banded the owlets. The local TV station and at least 60 people attended the event.
We have several evenings of feedings from our remote sensors and video camera work. We have documented that the owlets have been fed the following:
We have several sequences in which an owlets swallowed an entire cotton rat or large mouse.
Yesterday morning, the older owlet fell out of the flower pot. It won't be long until both of the owlets will venture out of their nest. The owlets are dangerous to touch without gloves. They hiss, pop their beaks, and rock backwards, attempting to lock their talons into researcher venturing too close. The owlets are large enough now that they activate our infrared sensor; thus, nocturnal feeding sequences are difficult to predict.
