Great Horned Owl Update From Kansas:
May 19, 1996

Here is the final update about the great horned owl family, live from their flower pot in Lawrence, Kansas:

14 May
The older owlet fledged at 04:00. Mrs. Morris saw the owlet fly from the deck and into the darkness. It was 47 days old.

19 May
Mrs. Morris just reported to me that the younger owlet is testing its wings. The owlet perches on the air conditioner for such activity.

The problem with the owl family has been that it has created a serious housekeeping problem out on the carpet of the deck. Mrs. Morris is in the process of deciding whether to give the flower pot to a friend or to keep the pot in place until next winter.

Sometime in early June, we plan to present our summary videotape to the residents of Brandon Woods, where Mrs. Morris lives.
