Peregrine Falcon Migration Update:
February 26, 1996

Exciting news! We heard from a hatchling year falcon last Thursday for the first time since December 7, 1995. As you probabaly recall from last week's report, the migration patterns of juvenile peregrine falcons are a mystery to scientists. Uncovering these mysteries is one of the most important aspects of Skip Ambrose's research. Since 65% of all young falcons die during their first year it's very difficult to discover this information. Congratulations to Skip Ambrose for success with this difficult research -- and hats off to Falcon #658 for staying alive! Let's hope she'll make it back to Alaska!

We have not heard from 7 of the 9 falcons since last week's report. This is because the falcons' transmitters are programmed to send data once every 20 days in order to conserve battery power. Can you figure out when will we hear from each falcon next? Watch for an update in next week's report.
