Hello! Here is our introduction.
Zdravstvyute from Kamchatka, the Far-East Russian peninsula located to the north of Japan and to the west of Alaska (click here to see a map of the region). There are several small towns and settlements on Kamchatka, but there is only one large city: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (population about 220,000). Our city is named after two ships -- Saint Paul and Saint Peter -- of the Dutch Commander Vitus Bering, who founded the city in 1742.
Kamchatka is the home of more than 100 volcanoes (28 of which are currently active). We also experience earthquakes of varying magnitudes on a regular basis.
Kamchatka's wildlife is awesome. The peninsula is populated by the brown bear, which might be comparable to the American grizzly bear, though the grizzly is more aggressive. The adult male brown bear may weigh up to one ton. The main animal in Kamchatka is the salmon, which inhabits the rivers with incredible density. Of course there are other animals in Kamchatka, for example: eagles, minks, otters, sables, geese, swans, and ducks.
We at School #34 in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy hope you have enjoyed this project as much as we have! Thank you for all your efforts!
