Introducing: Mystery Class # 8

Kia ora.

We are a Year 3 class of 30 7- to 8- year olds at a 5-teacher rural school in the north of the North Island of New Zealand. We have a very small town centre with 5 shops and a bank. Many of our adults work in the oil refinery or the power station or are farmers. Most of our farmers milk cows but some have sheep or "dry" stock (bulls or steers) for meat.

Our community is situated about 140 km north of the main city of Auckland, beside the beach - a long sweep of white sand stretching for 10 miles. Our waves are not very big so swimming is safe. We like to go fishing, surfing and boating.

All our children come to school by bus as our school is surrounded by farmland. There is a High School about 10 km away where most of us will go at age 11. We have 2 computers in each classroom but only the library has a modem.

Thank you for letting us be part of this project. It has been an interesting experience for us and we hope to be able to take part in more of them.

Best wishes from Mrs Pirihi's class in Room 6.
