Journey North Home Page

Southwest Harbor, Maine

We have planted several beds of Emperor Tulips. We planted approximately 80 bulbs in various locations. We chose 3 different microclimates: southern & western exposures, 2 against a building, one open. We have maps of these plots.

We measured, weighed, mapped, and investigated a variety of bulbs. The remaining bulbs were planted in pots to be over-wintered for forcing. The plan is to bring them out on Groundhog Day to kick off Journey North and hopefully have flowering plants the first day of spring - these will be sold at one of our little fairs, the $ given to a favorite charity. Previous to planting the bulbs we did a number of lessons on bulbs derived from the workshop this summer conducted by the Arboretum.
