Mystery Class Update, March 17, 1995

Just 3 more days until the first day of spring! As
promised, we're about to begin the first in a series of clues
that will help you solve this mystery. In preparation for
the first clue, here's what you need to do:

1) On Monday, March 20th record you sunrise and sunset data
    as usual.

2) Next, find out what time it was GREENWHICH MEAN TIME
(GMT) when the sun rose where you are.

3) In next Friday's message, along with the regular sunrise
and sunset data, we'll give you the sunrise GREENWHICH
MEAN TIME from each Mystery Location.

4) Instructions will be provided to help you determine the
longitude of each Mystery Class using the GREENWHICH MEAN
    TIME sunrise figures.

Here are some things to think about in the MEANtime:

1) What is Greenwhich Mean Time?

2) Why do you think you will be able to estimate the
longitude of each location by knowing the time of
    sunrise GMT?

Thanks to Mrs. Berger's class, here are this week's figures
from around the world:
