This note just arrived from Alaskan biologist Skip Ambrose. We wrote to ask his plans with the peregrines' transmitters, now that they're presumed to be back on their nesting territories in Alaska. Here's what he had to say:
"Dear Journey North,
"I will be here in my office until about May 20. Just as soon as the ice breaks on the Yukon I'll go to see which of these birds made it back. For those that did, I will re- capture and remove the transmitter.
"I know school will be out soon, but I will keep you posted on the trapping effort. Last year our survey took until mid-June, so you should expect to hear from me then."
