Greetings --
I hope all of you are enjoying spring. We've had some really beautiful days here in eastern Massachusetts lately.
There hasn't been very much right whale activity around here lately. Over the weekend 3 whales were seen in Cape Cod Bay, and on Friday night 2 were seen skim feeding right off a beach near Provincetown. No whales were seen on Monday or Tuesday, according to researchers from the International Wildlife Coalition and the Center for Coastal Studies. Although no cow-calf pairs have been seen yet, researchers expect them any day now.
For a review on whale classifications, see today's humpback whale report.
Other migration updates recorded from Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary by the International Wildlife Coalition include these marine bird sightings: Alcids seem to be moving out; fewer razorbills, guillemots and puffins. Gannets are coming up from the south (hadn't been seen until this month). They will summer in the cliff areas in eastern Canada.
That's it for this week's report.
