Most
Recent Sunrise/Sunset Data--Read ALL about It! |
The
seventh set of Sunrise/Sunset data has now arrived. But
don't stop there or you might end up like several classrooms that
recently skipped over parts of an Update and had to ask for directions.
Today this is especially important because you don't want to be
"clueless" do you?
Also,
there's another Mystery Class whose sunrise/sunset times have "slipped"
one hour this week. Which one is it? How does it compare to MC #9
whose times "slipped" a few weeks ago (remember Challenge
Question #2)? |

Just in from Your Mystery Friends
|
"Dear
Friends,
How are you doing on your hunt to find us? We're pretty good at
hiding, aren't we? But we also look forward to meeting you, so
we've been working very hard on our clues.
"We sent some in today and we wish we could tell
you more, but don't worry, more clues will be on their way for
the next four weeks--good luck, friends!"

Playing: A Clue About the Clues |
Special
thanks to the 10 secret Mystery Classes for preparing the interdisciplinary
clues above. At Journey North, we've sorted through all the clues,
getting them ready to come your way.
They
start out as broad clues about regions, continents or countries,
and then will get more specific, to help zero in on the city or
town. So hang in there, and have a look at the Journey North staff
reviewing the clues:

Who
wanted to be a Millionaire? |
Did
you find last week's GMT calculations to be challenging? Imagine
what it must have been like for the man who solved the "Longitude
Problem" for the very first time! Read the fascinating TRUE
story of how one man, an English clockmaker, solved this million
dollar mystery back in the 1700's:

The
Equinox is Monday--Will Your Eggs be "Standing" or "Schmushed"? |
Happy
Vernal Equinox: Monday
March 20
|
What
do you predict will happen to your eggs on the Equinox?
Have they balanced in the previous few weeks?
How are things "standing" (or not) at this point?
Keep testing for the next two weeks. |
|
We'll
ask you to send your results very soon, but in the meantime
be thinking about this difference of opinion between two
teachers... |
Which
Teacher is Right?
People always wonder about this "eggsistential"
experiment--just look at this question we received previously
from a teacher. How would you answer her question--which
teacher is right?:
"Hi Journey North staff, Perhaps you can help. I
have a colleague at school who firmly believes that an
egg can only be balanced on its end at the Equinox. She
was out today at 2:17 EST and managed to balance an egg
on its end. I do not believe she tries to do this at any
other time of the year. I have suggested that she needs
to try this just as hard at other times of the year to
establish that it is not just at the Equinox that the
balancing act can be achieved. She *believes* that it
can only happen at the exact Equinox. I know of no reason
why this should be so. I realize this is out of your ordinary
field of expertise, but has anyone there heard of this
myth, or is it me that is 'mythstaken'?"
