"The capital city of our prefecture (not our city) is on our island, which is said to be the largest island in our prefecture. Our island was the site of one of the final battles of WWII, and since that time it has been the home of many military bases for a country other than ours.

"Our village is located along the western shore of the central district of our Island. Although our village's western shoreline does face west, it actually extends into something east--do you sea? "Last year, we celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of our first station here, and we're now in our fifth station, shown above. Three buildings of our fifth station are on steel legs, which are jacked up annually to keep them clear of the accumulated snowfall.

"During our winter, our only natural light will be an occasional illumination from Aurora Australis like the Aurora shown in this photo of one of our buildings -- this is because we have about 105 days of darkness here during our winter. Being located as we are at Earth's extremities, the Sun's daily and seasonal patterns are very different from locations in Earth's mid latitudes or tropics. For instance, this week you may have noticed that our time keeping 'slipped' by three full hours, due to the unique time zone practices we observe. And one last thing, the longitude of our location is actually west of Greenwich, not east, by about the same number of degrees you calculated in the equinox clue-- just to clear up some confusion. "
