"One of the famous landmarks of our village, a gusuku, is in ruins with two arched gates . Some say the landmark is the highest point on the west side of our village, and that it was once used as a gun
station and radar station. Other gusuku like this are found on this island, but some say ours is unique because it is built on red earth, instead of on limestone. A famous battle in World War II began at a river in our village.

"Our station is named after a scientist who lived in the 1600-1700's and discovered a comet, now also named after him, which comes back to visit about every 3/4 century or so.
