How Contest Entries Were Ranked

We ranked the contest entries by grade level, so our first step was to separate the entries by grade. If the entry came from a mixed-grade classroom, we ranked the class according to the highest grade in the class.

After that, we carefully reviewed each entry to see how many correct answers there were. To be a correct answer, the answer needed to provide BOTH:

1) The correct CITY/TOWN/VILLAGE

AND

2) The correct
COUNTRY.

Questions About Your Answer?

First, be sure that you carefully review your entry again, and ask yourself this question:

"Did each of my answers give BOTH the correct city and the correct country?"

Then, also read the Special Notes below about how we judged the answers for several specific Mystery Classes.

Special Notes

For MC#1 (Vancouver, Canada), the correct city is Vancouver (which is a different place than Vancouver Island, and also is a different place than the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island).

For MC #2 (Yomitan, Japan), the correct city is Yomitan, or Yomitan Village, or Yomitan-san. The correct country is Japan. If you listed Okinawa as the city, this would not be correct; there is a city named Okinawa, but it is not the location of the Mystery Class. Similary, there is a prefecture (state/province) and an Island named Okinawa, but neither of these are the correct country.

For MC #6 (Yangon, Myanmar), for the correct city we accepted either Yangon or its former name Rangoon. For the country we accepted either Myanmar or Burma, because throughout the international community, this country may still be referred to as either Myanmar or Burma.

For MC #8 (La Maddalena, Italy), the correct city is La Maddalena, and the correct country is Italy. If you listed Sardinia or Sardegna as the city or the country, this would not be correct.
