Madagascar/Malagasy Food
Almost ALL traditional food is based on rice along with some type of vegetable, or sometimes a meat. We eat this rice-based diet morning, lunch, and evening!! Most people eat meat only on special occasions such as a wedding, death, or national holiday.

In the Malagasy language, the rice is known as "vary", and the accompanying food we mix with it is called the "laoka". This photo is one of many commom laokas called "ravimbomanga sy patsamena" (potato leaves stewed with dried shrimp).
