Our community: Kaiserslautern
Vogelweh Elementary School is located in the city of Kaiserslautern, Germany. Germany is made up of 16 states, and our local state is called Rheinland-Pfalz, in the southwest area of Germany. This is the official crest of Kaiserslautern.

If you were to visit the city of Kaiserslautern, you might notice the brightly-colored fish statues found throughout the city. The fish are remnants of the city's 725th anniversary celebration that took place in 2001.  During that time, some 200 colorful fish were placed around the city. The name "Kaiserslautern" came from the German word "Kaiser" (emperor), which refers to former emperor Frederick I, also known as Barbarossa, and the word "Lauter," the name of a river that used to run through the city.
