Famous Wildlife
The DR Congo is home to many different animals – from crocodiles and hippos to mountain and low land gorillas, as well as the typical African savannah animals.  It is also the only place where the national animal of D.R.Congo, the endangered Okapi, can be found living outside of a zoo.

And there is another animal that can only be found here – the bonobo.  The bonobo is the closest relative to humans.  As you saw in our clues, we're lucky to have the Lola Bonobo Sanctuary nearby.  The bonobos are very playful and a lot of fun to watch.  It’s also good to know that the sanctuary's goal is to move the bonobos to an island in the Congo River where they will be able to live free and safe.
