Mystery Class #1

"We can't wait to meet you, especially since we live in one of the greatest meeting places in history! Empires have met here, cultures and compass directions and world religions too -- there are mosques, cathedrals and synagogues. Olympians met here as well. In the bazaars of our capital city, you'll find copper coffee and tea sets like these."

"'Ahoy amigos!' Sail on in to meet us! Our city is a major harbor for big and small vessels alike. Be sure to plan for a long visit, because nearly half of the country lives in and around this national capital city, and we all want to show you around!"

"Is your water running? Ours is, because our city's name is from a Native American word that means running water. Which makes sense, since we're one of several cities along the largest lake that is completely in our state's borders. Still awash with doubt about our city? It's known for paper and a foundry.  We're giving you a sneak peak at us by standing in front of what's left of our historic City Hall, and once you find us, you'll see what's standing above us. Hint: Tick, tock, tick, tock, time's running out!"

"Pick up a pousse pousse, or take a tuk tuk! They're a very common way to get around in our non-channel city along the Indian Ocean, where there's so much to see. As a major port for our island country, there are ships coming and going, beautiful beaches, palm-lined avenues, and wonderful food like romazava. There's probably no need for salt though -- the city is said to be salty in the local tongue."

"We can bearly sit down, that's how excited we are to tell you about our city! It's a former capital of our country, a base for several UN departments, the birthplace of a famous composer,  and home to this famous bow-tied animal that most people cannot stop eating."

"Are you going in circles trying to find us? These floating farms are just part of the industry that makes our peninsular city a capital . . . not of government, but of fins, scales or shells. Look for one of our most famous city residents standing on our seashore; she's a winning odd-toed-ungulate who is quite a diva!"

"Waiting for more clues to bloom? Then our city is the place for you, with its huge colorful chaotic flower market that's been in business for over 100 years. The city's easy to find -- just come to the eastern state with a western name, and look for our state's capital city along the east bank of the river. One more thing. . . be sure to watch for our city's current name. . . it changed earlier this century."

"Prepare for landing! For clues to our location, begin with our nation. The first person to reach this continent's pole was one of our countrymen. The territory we're in is claimed by our country. Our location is one of two in this territory that is operated by our country. But which one? Our station is open year round, and operates a blue ice airport for large planes like this."

"Such a sight, such a city! Cross the bridge in either direction and you're here in our nation's capital. We have so many people that they say we're no longer a city. Instead, we're a prefecture or a metropolitan area. Whatever you call us, our population will swell even more when games return for the first time in over 50 years."

"Still weaving together your clues? One place to start is the colorful textile market in our coastal capital city -- it sells and is named for the beautiful fabric woven in our country and used for so many colorful things! And if you arrive by sea, you'll be welcomed with 'open arms' by a tall sculpture atop of the world."
