Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/09/2001

Number: 1

When the sun came out yesterday afternoon (Sept. 9) after a cloudy morning, my yard was absolutely alive with orange wings. It was the most beautiful thing! It was like being inside a butterfly cage! (my farm is south of Lake Park,IA)
This morning my students reported back on week-end homework. We are located just north of the IA MN border in Lakefield, MN (Pleasantview Elem). Josie, Megan, Rachel, Micah and Mike reported back. Their findings were as follows:
Radhel and Megan saw 24-29 monarchs on their block and they thought it was because their moms had so many flowers. Josie saw them at her house in town and on her grandparent's farm north of town. Mike reported a group of monarchs on a tree in an alleyway behind his house. Micah saw a group floating through the air at his house.
