Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/18/2001

Number: 1

Monarchs have been in New Orleans all summer long. During Metro New Orleans 4JBC (24 June 2001) 174 adults reported, along with 513 eggs, 99 caterpillars, and 48 chrysalids. Last year 60 adults were reported, 44 in 1999, and 47 in 1998. Before that leaa than seven were seen on any one
day. There may be a resident population in the southern states, especially
in urban areas. I have adults, eggs, and larvae now (18 September), but
have observed NO directional flight.
