Hundreds and hundreds of Monarchs still floating, fluttering, moving south through northwestern Vermont. In an abandoned pasture now overgrown with flowering goldenrod and wild asters and with podded milkweed, I watched them feed. As the sun fell in the west and the temperature began to plummet, they sought out roosting trees in a woodland at the edge of the field. Each one seemed to plaster itself to its own tree leaf. I had never observed this before, and was awestruck.
