Tuesday I began seeing monarchs steadily crossing Lake Lewisville at the
Hickory Creek Branch. From the horse trailer parking area near Pilot Knoll
Park on the southwestern side of the lake, I observed a steady stream of
high flying monarchs coming out of the north, crossing Hickory Creek and
heading south. The monarchs were flying with a marked intent and I counted
one per minute over the course of an hour and a half at one location. They
were on the wind which was out of the north and higher than I expected to
see them traveling, taking advantage of the wind currents I suppose.
