Monarch PEAK Migration

At 1:00 - 1:30 p.m. today, we were having a Monarch presentation, tagging and release at Oak Park Magnet School, and as I was explaining the migration to the children and teachers and telling them how to look for the migrating Monarchs in our midst with this wonderful year we are having, I spotted one doing exactly as predicted, heading from east to west at about 10 feet off the ground, then up and over the school building. Then continuing with my talk, I noticed several more, and as I started to open our screen cage to lift our Monarchs out to pass out for release, a teacher came up and said she had just spotted at least twenty behind me, which was south of our Pavilion, as I was talking to the children! We were outside for at least 1 1/2 hours and may have seen a total of 30 without looking out all the time. We released about 20 tagged, but mostly bred Monarchs, who are the parentage for the instars we are developing in the classrooms for a larger release later in the month. I wi
