At 4:00 pm I was photographing the New Haven Lighthouse and I observed a large migration of Monarch Butterflies. What a magnificent sight. I used my many years of birding to estimate at least 400 Monarchs resting on the leaves and branches of Chestnut and large leaf linden trees. They primarily rested in groupings of about 100-200 on the eastern quadrant of the trees about 20 -40 feet up.
