The last couple of weeks have been very hectic around here. My partner and I have tagged over 500 Monarchs on their journey south. There are still some late arrivals. I have been checking the wings to see if there are any tags passing through here from the Northern states. So far, the Monarchs have not had any tags that did not originate from our numbers.

I have noticed several smaller than normal Monarchs and figure that by the wear on their wings and the small size, they must have traveled a very long way. Some have wings that have faded to an almost white color.

I have been checking the Monarchs on an almost daily schedule and am seeing the numbers dwindle significantly. There are still several thousand around town, but I think they will be gone in few days. The peak migration for us was during October 12-18.
